Medical standars For Indian Navy

The candidates recommended by Service Selection Board undergo medical examination at nearest Service Hospitals. The medical examination procedure for candidates is as follow:-
(a) Special Medical Board(SMB). Special Medical Board (SMB) of officer candidates will be held at designated hospitals over duration of five to six days. Candidates will be declared Fit/Temporary Unfit or Permanent Unfit. Candidates declared Temporary Unfit are to report back to the hospital for examination after the specified time. Candidates who still do not qualify will be declared Permanent Unfit.

(b) Appeal Medical Board (AMB). Candidates who are declared Permanent Unfit by Special Medical Board are eligible for Appeal Medical Board after depositing a sum of Rs. 40/- in the Government Treasury. No fees will be charged from Temporarily Unfit candidates. Unfit candidates get a maximum of 42 days to report for AMB at designated Command Hospital.
Candidates declared unfit by Appeal Medical Board are eligible to appeal for Review Medical Board.
(c) Review Medical Board (RMB). The President of Appeal Medical Board will intimate the candidate, the reason of his/ her unfitness through a leaflet and guide him / her for Review Medical Board. However, he will explain to the candidate that holding of the Review Medical Board is at the discretion of DGMS(Navy) and DGAFMS based on the merits of the case and it is not his/her right. RMBs are conducted at Army Research & Referral Hospital Delhi and Armed Force Medical College Pune.

(a)Keratorefactory surgery (LASIK) may be allowed for short service commission intake of officer in the followings categories:-

   (i) Observer Entry

   (ii) ATC Entry

   (iii) NAI

   (iv) Law

   (v) Logistics

   (vi) Education

   (vii) Graduate Entry Technical

   (viii) Naval Constructor /Architect
(b) LASIK may be allowed subject to the following conditions:

   (i) Surgery should not have been carried out before 20 yrs of age

   (ii) Uncomplicated surgery at least 12 months before examination

   (iii) Axial length <25.0 mm by IOL Master or A scan

   (iv) Post LASIK corneal thickness measured by Pachymeter should not be less than 450 microns

   (v) Individuals with high refractive errors (>6D) prior to LASIK are to be excluded

   (vi) Normal retinal examination



MEDICAL STANDARDS
(a) Height . The preferable height for a candidate of 18 years of age is 157 cm for males and 152 cm for females.
(b) Anthropometric Measurement . The acceptable anthropometric standard for aviation entries i.e Short Service Commission(Aviation & Observer) entry for male is as follows:-
  1. Minimum Height-162.5 cm
  2. Sitting Height- Minimum 81.5 cm,Maximum-96.0 cm
  3. Leg Length – Minimum-99.0 cm,Maximum-120.0 cm
  4. Thigh Length-Maximum-64.0

    PHYSICAL STANDARDS FOR CANDIDATE JOINING INDIAN NAVY AS OFFICERS (MALE/FEMALE)




    1. These standards are laid down to assess the fitness of a candidate for selection to the Navy. The candidate must be in good physical and mental health and free from any defect likely to interfere with the efficient performance of duties both ashore and afloat under peace as well as war conditions in any part of the world.


    2. During the inspection of candidates the following principal points are to be ensured :-


    (a) The hearing is good and that there is no sign of any disease of ear, nose or throat.


    (b) Vision in either eye is up to the required standard. His/her eyes are bright, clear and with no obvious squint or abnormality. Movements of eye balls should be full and free in all directions.


    (c) Speech is without impediment.


    (d) There is no glandular swelling.


    (e) Chest is well formed and that his/her heart and lungs are sound.


    (f) Limbs of the candidates are well formed and fully developed.


    (g) There is free and perfect action of all the joints.


    (h) There is no evidence of hernia of any degree or form.


    (j) Feet and toes are well formed.


    (k) Absence of any congenital malformation or defects.


    (l) He/she does not bear traces of previous acute or chronic disease pointing to an impaired constitution.


    (m) Presence of sufficient number of sound teeth for efficient mastication.


    (n) Absence of any disease of the Genito- Urinary tract.
